ُعَاؤُهُ عِنْدَ الصَّبَاحِ وَ الْمَسَاء

أَلْحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذِي خَلَقَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهارَ بِقُوَّتِهِ،

al-h'am-du lil-laahil-lad'ee khalaqal-lay-la wan-nahaara biqoo-watih

1.Praise belongs to God, who created night and day through His strength,

وَمَيَّزَ بَيْنَهُمَا بِقُدْرَتِهِ،

wa may-yaza bay-nahumaa biqud-ratih

2.set them apart through His power,

وَجَعَلَ لِكُلِّ وَاحِد مِنْهُمَا حَدّاً مَحْدُوداً، وَأَمَداً مَمْدُوداً ،

wa jaa'la likul-li waah'idim-minhumaa h'ad-dam-mah'-doodaw-wa amadam-mam-doodaa

3.and appointed for each a determined limit and a drawn-out period.

يُولِجُ كُلَّ وَاحِد مِنْهُمَا فِي صَاحِبِهِ،

yooliju kul-la waah'idim-min-humaa fee s'aah'ibihee

4.He makes each of the two enter into its companion,

وَيُولِجُ صَاحِبَهُ فِيهِ بِتَقْدِير مِنْهُ لِلْعِبَادِ

wa yooliju s'aah'ibahoo feeh bitaq-deerim-min-hoo lil-i'baadi

5.and makes its companion enter into it, as an ordainment from Him for His servants

فِيمَا يَغْـذُوهُمْ بِـهِ وَيُنْشئُهُمْ عَلَيْـهِ،

feemaa yagh-d'oohum bihee wa yunshi-uhum a'lay-h

6.in that through which He feeds them and with which He makes them grow.

فَخَلَقَ لَهُمُ اللَّيْـلَ لِيَسْكُنُوا فِيْهِ مِنْ حَرَكَاتِ التَّعَبِ،

fakhalaqa lahumul-lay-l leeas-kunoo feehee min h'arakaatit-taa'bi

7.He created for them the night, "that they might rest in it" (10:67) from tiring movements

وَنَهَضَاتِ النَّصَبِ، وَجَعَلَهُ لِبَاساً لِيَلْبَسُوا مِنْ رَاحَتِهِ وَمَنَامِهِ،

wa nahaz''aatin-nas'ab wa jaa'lahoo libaasal-leeal-basoo mir-raah'atihee wamanaamihee

8.and wearisome exertions and He made it a garment for them that they might be clothed in its ease and its sleep,

فَيَكُونَ ذَلِكَ جَمَاماً وَقُوَّةً، وَلِيَنَالُوا بِهِ لَذَّةً وَشَهْوَةً.

fayakoona d'alika lahum jamaamaw-waqoo-wah wa leeanaaloo bihee lad'-d'ataw-washah-wah

9.that it might be for them refreshment and strength, that they might reach therein pleasure and passion.

وَخَلَقَ لَهُمُ النَّهارَ مُبْصِراً لِيَبْتَغُوا فِيهِ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ،

wa khalaqa lahumun-nahaara mub-s'ira leeab-taghoo feehee min faz''-lih

10.He created for them the daytime, "giving sight, that they might seek within it of His bounty" (ref. 17:12)

وَلِيَتَسَبَّبُوا إلَى رِزْقِهِ، وَيَسْرَحُوا فِي أَرْضِهِ،

wa leeatasab-baboo ilaa riz-qih wa yas-rah'oo feee ar-z''ih

11.find the means to His provision, and roam freely in His earth,

طَلَباً لِمَا فِيـهِ نَيْلُ الْعَاجِلِ مِنْ دُنْيَاهُمْ،

t'alabal-limaa feeh nay-lul-a'ajili min dunyaahum-

12.searching for that through which to attain the immediate in their life in this world

وَدَرَكُ الاجِلِ فِيْ اُخْراهُمْ. بِكُلِّ ذلِكَ يُصْلِحُ شَأنَهُمْ،

wa darakul-aaajili feee ukh-raahum- bikul-li d'alika yus'-lihoo shaa-nahum-

13.and to achieve the deferred in their life to come. Through all of this He sets right their situation,

وَيَبْلُو أَخْبَارَهُمْ وَيَنْظُرُ كَيْفَ هُمْ فِي أَوْقَاتِ طَاعَتِـهِ،

wa yab-looo akh-baarahum- wa yanz'uru kay-fa hum feee aw-qaati t'aaa'tih

14.tries their records, and watches their state in the times for obeying Him,

وَمَنَازِلِ فُـرُوضِهِ وَمَوَاقِعِ أَحْكَامِهِ

wa manaazili furooz''ih wa mawaaqii' ah'-kaamih

15.the waystations of His obligations, and the places of His ordinances,

لِيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أسَاءُوا بِمَا عَمِلُوا وَيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا بِالْحُسْنَى.

(leeaj-zeeal-lad'eena asaaa-oo bimaa a'miloo wa yaj-zeeal-lad'eena ah'-sanoo bil-h'us-naa)

16.that He may repay those who do evil with what they have done and repay those who do good with goodness.

اللَّهُمَّ فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ عَلَى مَافَلَقْتَ لَنَا مِنَ الإصْبَاحِ،

al-laahum-ma falakal-h'am-du a'laa maa falaq-ta lanaa minal-is'-baah'

17.O God, to You belongs praise for the sky You hast split into dawn for us,

وَمَتَّعْتَنَا بِهِ مِنْ ضَوْءِ النَّهَارِ،

wa mat-taa'-tanaa bihee min z''aw-in-nahaar

18.giving us to enjoy thereby the brightness of daytime,

وَبَصَّرْتَنَا مِنْ مَطَالِبِ الاقْوَاتِ،

wa bas'-s'ar-tanaa mim-mat'aalibil-aq-waat

19.showing us sought-after nourishments,

وَوَقَيْتَنَا فِيهِ مِنْ طَوارِقِ الآفاتِ.

wa waqay-tanaa feehee min t'awaariqil-aaafaat

20.and protecting us from the striking of blights.

أَصْبَحْنَا وَأَصْبَحَتِ الاَشْياءُ كُلُّهَا بِجُمْلَتِهَا لَكَ:

as'-bah'-naa wa as'-bah'atil-ash-yaaa-u kul-luhaa bijum-latihaa lak

21.In the morning we and all things, every one, rise for You,

سَمَاؤُها وَأَرْضُهَا وَمَا بَثَثْتَ

samaaaw-uhaa wa ar-z''uhaa wa maa bathath-ta

22.the heaven and the earth and what You hast scattered

فِي كُلِّ وَاحِد مِنْهُمَا سَاكِنُهُ وَمُتَحَرِّكُهُ وَمُقِيمُهُ

fee kul-li waah'idim-min-humaa saakinuhoo wa mutah'ar-rikuh wa muqeemuhoo

23.in each, the still and the moving, the resident

وَشَاخِصُهُ وَمَا عَلا فِي الْهَواءِ وَمَا كَنَّ تَحْتَ الثَّرى

wa shaakhis'uh wa maa a'laa fil-hawaaa-i wa maa kan-na tah'-tath-tharaa

24.and the journeying, what towers up in the air and what hides under the ground.

أَصْبَحْنَا فِي قَبْضَتِكَ

as'-bah'-naa fee qab-z''atik

25.We rise in the morning in Your grasp:

يَحْوِينَا مُلْكُكَ وَسُلْطَانُكَ وَتَضُمُّنَا مَشِيَّتُكَ،

yah'-weenaa mul-kuka wa sul-t'aanuk wa taz''um-munaa mashee-yatuk

26.Your kingdom and authority contain us and Your will embraces us.

وَنَتَصَرَّفُ عَنْ أَمْرِكَ، وَنَتَقَلَّبُ فِيْ تَدْبِيرِكَ

wa natas'ar-rafu a'n am-rik wa nataqal-labu fee tad-beerik

27.We move about by Your command and turn this way and that through Your governing.

لَيْسَ لَنَا مِنَ الامْرِ إلاّ مَا قَضَيْتَ

lay-sa lanaa minal-am-ri il-laa maa qaz''ay-t

28.We own nothing of the affair except what You hast decreed

وَلا مِنَ الْخَيْـرِ إلا مَـا أَعْطَيْتَ.

wa laa minal-khay-ri il-laa maaa aa'-t'ay-t

29.and nothing of the good except what You hast given.

وَهَذَا يَوْمٌ حَادِثٌ جَدِيدٌ، وَهُوَ عَلَيْنَا شَاهِدٌ عَتِيدٌ ،

wa had'aa yaw-mun h'aadithun jadeed wa huwa a'lay-naa shaahidun a'teed

30.This is a fresh, new day, over us a ready witness.

إنْ أحْسَنَّا وَدَّعَنَا بِحَمْد، وَإِنْ أسَأنا فارَقَنا بِذَمّ

in ah'-san-naa wad-daa'naa bih'am-d wa in asaa-naa faaraqanaa bid'am

31.If we do good, it will take leave from us with praise, and if we do evil, it will part from us in blame.

اللَّهُمَ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَد وَآلِـهِ

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

32.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

وَارْزُقْنَـا حُسْنَ مُصَاحَبَتِهِ وَاعْصِمْنَا

war-zuq-naa h'us-na mus'aah'abatih wa aa'-s'im-naa

33.provide us with the day's good companionship and preserve us

مِنْ سُوْءِ مُفَارَقَتِهِ بِارْتِكَابِ جَرِيرَة،

min sooo-i mufaaraqatih bir-tikaabi jareerah

34.against parting from it badly by doing a misdeed

أَوِ اقْتِرَافِ صَغِيرَة أوْ كَبِيرَة.

awi aq-tiraafi s'agheeratin aw kabeerah

35.or committing a sin, whether small or great!

وَأجْزِلْ لَنَا فِيهِ مِنَ الْحَسَناتِ وَأَخْلِنَا فِيهِ مِنَ السَّيِّئاتِ.

wa aj-zil-lanaa feehee minal-h'asanaat wa akh-linaa feehee minas-say-yi-aat

36.Make our good deeds within it plentiful empty us therein of evil deeds,

وَامْلا لَنَا مَا بَيْنَ طَرَفَيْهِ حَمْداً وَشُكْراً وَأجْراً وَذُخْراً وَفَضْلاً وَإحْسَاناً.

wa am-laa lanaa maa beena t'arafay-hee h'am-daw-washuk-raa wa aj-raw-wa d'ukh-raa wa faz''-law-wa ih'-saanaa

37.and fill what lies between its two sides for us with praise and thanksgiving, wages and stores, bounty and beneficence!

اللَّهُمَّ يسِّرْ عَلَى الْكِرَامِ الْكَاتِبِينَ مَؤُونَتَنَا،

al-laahum-ma yas-sir a'laal-kiraamil-kaatibeena maw-unatanaa

38.O God, ease our burden on the Noble Writers,

وَامْلا لَنَا مِنْ حَسَنَاتِنَا صَحَائِفَنَا.

wa am-laa lanaa min h'asanaatinaa s'ah'aaa-ifanaa

39.fill our pages for us with our good deeds,

وَلاَ تُخْزِنَا عِنْدَهُمْ بِسُوءِ أَعْمَالِنَا.

wa laa tukh-zinaa i'ndahum bisooo-i aa'-maalinaa

40.and degrade us not before them with our evil works!

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ لَنَا فِي كُلِّ سَاعَة مِنْ سَاعَاتِهِ حَظّاً مِنْ عِبَادِكَ ،

al-laahum-ma aj-a'l-lanaa fee kul-li saaa'tim-min saaa'atih h'az'-z'am-min i'baadik

41.O God, appoint for us in each of the day's hours a share from Your servants,

وَنَصِيباً مِنْ شُكْرِكَ وَشَاهِدَ صِدْق مِنْ مَلائِكَتِكَ

wa nas'eebam-min shuk-rik wa shaahida s'id-qim-mim-malaaa-ikatik

42.a portion of giving thanks to You, and a truthful witness among Your angels!

أللَّهَّمَ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ ،

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

43.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household

وَاحْفَظْنَا مِنْ بَيْنِ أيْدِينَا وَمِنْ خَلْفِنَا وَعَنْ أيْمَانِنَا وَعَنْ شَمَائِلِنَا،

wa ah'-faz'-naa mim-bay-ni ay-deenaa? wa min khal-finaa wa a'n ay-maaninaa? wa a'n shamaaa-ilinaa

44.and safeguard us from before us and behind us, from our right hands and our left hands

وَمِنْ جَمِيْعِ نَوَاحِيْنَا حِفْظاً عَاصِماً مِنْ مَعْصِيَتِكَ

wa min jameei' nawaah'eenaa h'if-z'aa a'as'imam-mim-maa'-s'eeatik

45.and from all our directions, a safeguarding that will preserve from disobeying You,

هَادِياً إلَى طَاعَتِكَ مُسْتَعْمِلاً لِمَحَبَّتِكَ.

haadeean ilaa t'aaa'tik mus-taa'-milal-limah'ab-batik

46.guide to obeying You, and be employed for Your love!

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

47.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household

وَوَفِّقْنَا فِي يَوْمِنَا هذا ولَيْلَتِنَا هذِهِ وَفِي جَمِيعِ أيّامِنَا

wa waf-fiq-naa fee yaw-minaa had'aa wa lay-latinaa had'ihi? wa fee jameei' ay-yaaminaa

48.and give us success in this day of ours, this night of ours, and in all our days,

لاسْتِعْمَالِ الْخَيْرِ وَهِجْـرَانِ الشَرِّ وَشُكْـرِ ألنِّعَمِ

lias-tia'-maalil-khay-r wa hij-raanish-shar wa shuk-rin-nia'm

49.to employ the good, stay away from the evil, give thanks for favours,

وَاتّبَـاعِ السُّنَنِ وَمُجَانَبَةِ البِدَعِ

wa at-tibaai's-sunan wa mujaanabatil-bidaa'-

50.follow the Sunna's norms, avoid innovations,

وَالأمْرِ بِـالْمَعْرُوفِ وَالنَّهيِ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ

wal-am-ri bil-maa'-roof wan-nah-yi a'nil-munkar

51.enjoin good behaviour, forbid the disapproved,

وَحِياطَةِ الإسْلاَمِ وَانْتِقَاصِ الْبَاطِلِ وَإذْلالِهِ

wa h'eeaat'atil-is-laam wa antiqaas'il-baat'ili wa id'-laalih

52.defend Islam, diminish falsehood and abase it,

وَنُصْرَةِ الْحَقِّ وَإعْزَازِهِ ، وَإرْشَادِ الضَّالِّ ،

wa nus'-ratil-h'aq-qi wa ia'-zaazih wa ir-shaadiz''-z''aaal

53.help the truth and exalt it, guide the misguided,

وَمُعَاوَنَةِ الضَّعِيفِ وَإدْرَاكِ اللَّهِيْفِ.

wa mua'awanatiz''-z''ae'ef wa id-raakil-laaheef

54.assist the weak, and reach out to the troubled!

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

55.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household

وَاجْعَلْهُ أيْمَنَ يَوْم عَهِدْنَاهُ ،

waj-a'l-hooo ay-mana yaw-min a'hid-naah

56.and make this the most fortunate day we have known,

وَأَفْضَلَ صَاحِب صَحِبْنَاهُ ،

wa af-z''ala s'aah'ibin s'ah'ib-naah

57.the most excellent companion we have accompanied,

وَخَيْرَ وَقْت ظَلِلْنَا فِيْهِ.

wa khay-ra waq-tin z'alil-naa feeh

58.and the best time in which we have lingered!

وَاجْعَلْنَا مِنْ أرْضَى مَنْ مَرَّ عَلَيْهِ اللَّيْـلُ وَالنَّهَارُ مِنْ جُمْلَةِ خَلْقِكَ

waj-a'l-naa min ar-z''aa mam-mar-ra a'lay-hil-lay-lu wan-nahaaru min jum-lati khal-qik

59.Place us among the most satisfied of all Your creatures whom night and day have passed by,

وأَشْكَـرَهُمْ لِمَا أوْلَيْتَ مِنْ نِعَمِكَ

ash-karahum limaaa aw-lay-ta min-nia'mik

60.the most thankful of them for the favours You hast done,

وَأقْوَمَهُمْ بِمَـا شَرَعْتَ مِنْ شَرَائِعِكَ ،

wa aq-wamahum bimaa sharaa'-ta min sharaaa-ii'k

61.the firmest of them in the laws You hast set down in the Shari'a,

وَأَوْقَفَهُمْ عَمَّا حَذَّرْتَ مِنْ نَهْيِكَ.

wa aw-qafahum a'm-maa h'ad'-d'ar-ta min-nah-yik

62.and the most unyielding of them toward the prohibited acts against which You hast cautioned!

اللَهُمَّ إنِّي اشْهِدُكَ وَكَفَى بِكَ شَهِيداً وَاُشْهِدُ سَمَاءكَ وَأَرْضَكَ

al-laahum-ma in-neee ush-hiduka wa kafaa bika shaheedaa wa ush-hidu samaaa-aka wa ar-z''aka

63.O God, I call You to witness - and You art sufficient witness - and I call Your heaven and Your earth to witness

وَمَنْ أَسْكَنْتَهُما مِنْ مَلائِكَتِـكَ وَسَائِرِ خَلْقِكَ فِي يَوْمِي هَذَا ،

wa man as-kantahumaa mim-malaaa-ikatika wa saaa-iri khal-qik fee yaw-mee had'aa

64.and Your angels and Your other creatures who inhabit them in this my day,

وَسَاعَتِي هَذِهِ ، وَلَيْلَتِي هَذِهِ ، وَمُسْتَقَرِّي هَذَا ،

wa saaa'tee had'ih? wa lay-latee had'ih wa mus-taqar-ree had'aa

65.this my hour, this my night, and this my resting place,

أنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ أنْتَ اللهُ الِذَّي

an-neee ash-hadu an-naka antal-laahool-lad'ee

66.that I bear witness that You art God,

لاَ إلهَ إلاّ أَنْتَ قَائِمٌ بِـالْقِسْطِ ،

laaa ilaha il-laaa ant qaaa-imum-bil-qis-t'

67.other than whom there is no god, Upholding justice,

عَدْلٌ فِي الْحُكْم ، رَؤُوفٌ بِالْعِبَادِ ،

a'd-lun fil-h'uk-m ra-oofum-bil-i'baad

68.Equitable in judgement, "Clement to the servants" (2:207),

مَالِكُ المُلْكِ رَحِيمٌ بِالْخَلْقِ ،

maalikul-mul-k rah'eemum-bil-khal-q

69."Master of the kingdom" (3:26), Compassionate to the creatures,

وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ وَخِيرَتُكَ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ ،

wa an-na muh'am-madan a'b-duka warasooluk wa kheearatuka min khal-qik

70.and that Muhammad is Your servant and Your messenger, Your chosen from among Your creatures.

حَمَّلْتَهُ رِسَالَتَكَ فَأدَّاهَا وَأَمَرْتَهُ بالنُّصْحِ لاُِمَّتِهِ فَنَصَحَ لَهَا.

h'am-mal-tahoo risaalataka faad-daahaa wa amar-tahoo bin-nus'-hee lium-matihee fanas'ah'a lahaa

71.You didst charge him with Your message and he delivered it; You didst command him to counsel his community and he counselled it.

اللَّهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ أكْثَرَ مَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى أَحَد مِنْ خَلْقِكَ

al-laahum-ma fas'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih ak-thara maa s'al-lay-ta a'laaa ah'adim-min khal-qik

72.O God, so bless Muhammad and his Household more than You hast blessed any of Your creatures!

وَآتِهِ عَنَّا أَفْضَلَ مَا آتَيْتَ أَحَداً مِنْ عِبَادِكَ

wa aaatihee a'n-naaa af-z''ala maaa aaatay-ta ah'adam-min i'baadik

73.Give him for our sake the best You hast given any of Your servants,

وَاجْزِهِ عَنَّا أَفْضَلَ وَأكْرَمَ مَا جَزَيْتَ أَحَداً مِنْ أَنْبِيائِـكَ عَنْ أمَّتِهِ.

wa aj-zihee a'n-naaa af-z''ala wa ak-rama maa jazay-ta ah'adam-min ambeeaaa-ika a'n um-matih

74.and repay him on our behalf better and more generously than You hast repaid any of Your prophets on behalf of his community!

إنَّـكَ أَنْتَ الْمَنَّانُ بِالْجَسِيمِ الْغَـافِر لِلْعَظِيمِ ،

in-nak antal-man-naanu bil-jaseem wa al-ghaafiru lil-a'z'eem

75.You art All-kind with immensity, the Forgiver of the great,

وَأَنْتَ أَرْحَمُ مِنْ كُلِّ رَحِيم ،

wa anta ar-h'amu min kul-li rah'eem

76.and You art more merciful than every possessor of mercy!

فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

fas'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalihi

77.So bless Muhammad and his Household,

الطَّيِّبِينَ الطَّاهِرِينَ الأَخْيَارِ الانْجَبِينَ.
