His supplication in asking Pardon

أَللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أَعْتَـذِرُ إلَيْـكَ

al-laahum-ma in-neee aa'-tad'iru ilay-ka

1.O God, I ask pardon from You for

مِنْ مَـظْلُوم ظُلِمَ بِحَضْرَتِي فَلَمْ أَنْصُرْهُ،

mim-maz'-loomin z'ulima bih'az''-ratee falam ans'ur-h

2.the person wronged in my presence whom I did not help,

وَمِنْ مَعْرُوف أُسْدِيَ إلَيَّ فَلَمْ أَشْكُرْهُ،

wa mim-maa'-roofin us-deea ilay-ya falam ash-kur-h

3.the favour conferred upon me for which I returned no thanks,

وَمِنْ مُسِيء أعْتَذَرَ إلَيَّ فَلَمْ أَعْذِرْهُ،

wa mim-musee-in aa'-tad'ara ilay-ya falam aa'-d'ir-h

4.the evildoer who asked pardon from me and whom I did not pardon,

وَمِنْ ذِيْ فَاقَة سَأَلَنِي فَلَمْ اُوثِرْهُ،

wa min d'ee faaqatin saalanee falam oo-thir-h

5.the needy person who asked from me and whom I preferred not over myself,

وَمِنْ حَقِّ ذي حَقٍّ لَزِمَنِي لِمُؤْمِن فَلَمْ أوَفِّـرْهُ،

wa min h'aq-qi d'ee h'aq-qil-lazimanee limoo-minin falam uwaf-fir-h

6.the right of a believer who possesses a right incumbent upon me which I did not fulfil,

وَمِنْ عَيْبِ مُؤْمِن ظَهَر لِي فَلَمْ أَسْتُرْهُ،

wa min a'y-bi moo-minin z'ahara lee falam as-tur-h

7.the fault of a believer which became evident to me and which I did not conceal,

وَمِنْ كُلِّ إثْم عَرَضَ لِيْ فَلَمْ أَهْجُرْهُ.

wa min kul-li ith-min a'raz''a lee falam ah-jur-h

8.and every sin which presented itself to me and which I failed to avoid.

أَعْتَذِرُ إلَيْكَ يَا إلهِي مِنْهُنَّ

aa'-tad'iru ilay-ka yaaa ilaahee min-hun-na

9.I ask pardon, my God, for all of these

وَمِنْ نَظَائِرِهِنَّ اعْتِذَارَ نَدَامَة

-naz'aaa-irihin aa'-tid'aara nadaama

10.and their likes, with an asking of pardon in remorse

يَكُونُ وَاعِظاً لِمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيَّ مِنْ أَشْبَاهِهِنَّ.

yakoonu waai'z'al-limaa bay-na yaday-ya min ash-baahihin

11.which may act as an admonisher against similar things ahead of me.

فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

fas'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

12.So bless Muhammad and his Household

وَاجْعَلْ نَدَامَتِي عَلَى مَا وَقَعْتُ فِيهِ مِنَ الـزَّلاّتِ

waj-a'l nadaamatee a'laa maa waqaa'-tu feehee minaz-zal-laat

13.and make my remorse for the slips into which I have fallen

وَعَزْمِي عَلَى تَـرْكِ مَا يَعْـرِضُ لِيْ مِنَ السَّيِّئـاتِ

wa a'z-mee a'laa tar-ki maa yaa'-riz''u lee mina-s say-yi-aat

14.and my determination to refrain from the evil deeds which present themselves to me

تَوبَةً تُوجِبُ لِيْ مَحَبَّتَـكَ

taw-batan toojibu lee mah'ab-bataka

15.a repentance which will make Your love for me obligatory,

يا مُحِبَّ التَّوَّابِيْنَ.

yaa muh'ib-bat-taw-waabeen

16.O lover of those who repent!
