Seeking Good Outcomes
ُعَاؤُهُ بِخَوَاتِمِ الْخَيْر

يا مَنْ ذِكْرُهُ شَرَفٌ لِلذَّاكِرِينَ

yaa man d'ik-ruhoo sharaful-lild'-d'aakireen

1.O He remembering whom brings honour to those who remember!

وَيَا مَنْ شُكْرُهُ فَوْزٌ لِلشَّاكِرِينَ،

wa yaa man shuk-ruhoo faw-zul-lilsh-shaakireen

2.O He thanking whom brings triumph to those who give thanks!

وَيَا مَنْ طَاعَتُهُ نَجَاةٌ لِلْمُطِيعِينَ

wa yaa man t'aaa'tuhoo najaatul-lil-mut'eee'en

3.O He obeying whom brings deliverance to those who obey!

صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalihee

4.Bless Muhammad and his Household,

وَاشْغَلْ قُلُوبَنَا بِذِكْرِكَ عَنْ كُلِّ ذِكْر،

wa ash-ghal quloobanaa bid'ik-rika a'n kul-li d'ik-r

5.and divert our hearts through remembering You from every act of remembrance,

وَأَلْسِنَتَنَا بِشُكْرِكَ عَنْ كُلِّ شُكْر

wa al-sinatanaa bishuk-rika a'n kul-li shuk-r

6.our tongues through thanking You from every act of thanksgiving,

وَجَوَارِحَنَا بِطَاعَتِكَ عَنْ كُلِّ طَاعَة.

wa jawaarih'anaa bit'aaa'tika a'n kul-li t'aaa'h

7.our limbs through obeying You from every act of obedience!

فَإنْ قَدَّرْتَ لَنَا فَرَاغاً مِنْ شُغُل فَاجْعَلْهُ فَرَاغَ سَلاَمَة

faan qad-dar-ta lanaa faraagham-min shugh-lin faj-a'l-hoo faraagha salaamah

8.If You hast ordained for us idleness from these occupations, make it an idleness of safety,

لا تُدْرِكُنَا فِيهِ تَبِعَةٌ وَلاَ تَلْحَقُنَا فِيهِ سَاَمَةٌ

laa tud-rikunaa feehee tabia'h wa laa tal-h'aqunaa feehee saa-mah

9.within which no ill consequence visits us or weariness overtakes us!

حَتَّى يَنْصَرِفَ عَنَّا كُتَّابُ السَّيِّئَاتِ بِصَحِيفَة خَالِيَة مِنْ ذِكْرِ سَيِّئاتِنَا

h'at-taa yans'arifa a'n-naa kut-taabus-say-yi-aati bis'ah'eefatin khaaleeatim-min d'ik-ri say-yi-aatinaa

10.Then the writers of evil deeds may depart from us with a page empty of the mention of our evil deeds,

َو يَتَوَلّى كُتَّابُ الْحَسَنَاتِ عَنَّا

wa yatawl-laa kut-taabul-h'asanaati

11.and the writers of good deeds may turn away from us

مَسْرُورِينَ بِمَا كَتَبُوا مِنْ حَسَنَاتِنَا .

a'n-naa mas-rooreena bimaa kataboo min h'asanaatinaa

12.happy with the good deeds of ours which they have written.

وَإذَا انْقَضَتْ أَيَّامُ حَيَاتِنَـا وَتَصَرَّمَتْ مُـدَدُ أَعْمَارِنَـا،

wa id'aa anqaz''at ay-yaamu h'ayaatinaa wa tas'ar-ramat mudadu aa'-maarinaa

13.And when the days of our life have passed by, the terms of our lifetimes have elapsed,

وَاسْتَحْضَرَتْنَا دَعْوَتُكَ الَّتِي لاَ بُدَّ مِنْهَا وَمِنْ إجَابَتِهَا ،

was-tah'-z''arat-naa daa'-watukal-latee laa bud-da min-haa wamin ijaabatihaa

14.and Your call, which must come and be answered, summons us forth,

فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،

fas'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

15.then bless Muhammad and his Household

وَاجْعَلْ خِتَامَ مَا تُحْصِي عَلَيْنَا كَتَبَةُ أَعْمَالِنَا

waj-a'l khitaama maa tuh'-s'ee a'lay-naa katabatu aa'-maalinaa

16.and make the outcome of what the writers of our works count against us

تَوْبَةً مَقْبُولَةً لا تُوقِفُنَا بَعْدَهَا عَلَى ذَنْب اجْتَرَحْنَاهُ،

taw-batam-maq-boolah laa tooqifunaa baa'-dahaa a'laa d'ambin aj-tarah'-naahu

17.an accepted repentance, which afterwards gave us no rest in a sin that we committed

وَلاَ مَعْصِيَة اقْتَرَفْنَاهَا،

wa laa maa'-s'eeatin aq-taraf-naahaa

18.or an act of disobedience that we performed!

وَلاَ تَكْشِفْ عَنَّا سِتْراً سَتَرْتَهُ عَلَى رُؤُوسِ الأشْهَادِ

wa laa tak-shif a'n-naa sit-ran satar-tahoo a'laa ru-oosil-ash-haadi

19.Remove not from us any covering with which You hast covered over the heads of the witnesses

يَوْمَ تَبْلُو أَخْبَارَ عِبَادِكَ

yaw-ma tab-looo akh-baara i'baadik

20.on the day when the records of Your servants are tried!

إنَّكَ رَحِيمٌ بِمَنْ دَعَاكَ، وَمُسْتَجيبٌ لِمَنْ نَادَاكَ .

in-naka rah'eemum-biman daa'ak wa mus-tajeebul-liman-naadaak

21.Verily You art compassionate to him who supplicates You, the responder to him who calls upon You!
