Upon Completing a Reading of the Qur'an

أَللَّهُمَّ إنَّكَ أَعَنْتَنِي عَلَى خَتْمِ كِتَابِكَ

al-laahum-ma in-naka aa'ntanee a'laa khat-mi kitaabika

1.O God, You hast helped me complete Your Book,

الَّذِي أَنْزَلْتَهُ نُوراً وَجَعَلْتَهُ مُهَيْمِناً

lad'ee anzal-tahoo nooraa wa jaa'l-tahoo muhay-minan

2.which You sent down as a light and appointed as a guardian

عَلَى كُلِّ كِتَاب أَنْزَلْتَهُ،

a'laa kul-li kitaabin anazal-tah

3.over every book You hast sent down,

وَفَضَّلْتَهُ عَلَى كُلِّ حَدِيث قَصَصْتَهُ،

wa faz''-z''al-tahoo a'laa kul-li h'adeethin qas'as'-tah

4.preferring it over every narrative which You hast recounted,

وَفُرْقاناً فَرَقْتَ بِهِ بَيْنَ حَلالِكَ وَحَرَامِكَ،

wa fur-qaanana faraq-ta bihee bay-na h'alaalika wa h'araamik

5.a separator, through which You hast separated Your lawful from Your unlawful,

وَقُرْآناً أَعْرَبْتَ بِهِ عَنْ شَرَائِعِ أَحْكَامِكَ،

wa qur-aaanan aa'-rab-ta bihee a'n sharaaa-ii' ah'-kaamik

6.a Qur'an, through which You hast made plain the approaches to Your ordinances,

وَكِتَاباً فَصَّلْتَهُ لِعِبَادِكَ تَفْصِيلاً،

wa kitaabana fas'-s'al-tahoo lii'baadika taf-s'eelaa

7.a book, which You hast distinguished very distinctly for Your servants,

وَوَحْياً أَنْزَلْتَهُ عَلَى نَبِيِّكَ مُحَمَّد صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ تَنْزِيلاً،

wa wah'-yan anzal-tahoo a'laa nabee-yika muh'am-madin s'alawaatuka a'lay-hee wa aaalihee tanzeelaa

8.a revelation, which You hast sent down, a sending down, upon Your prophet Muhammad (Your blessings be upon him and his Household).

وَجَعَلْتَهُ نُوراً نَهْتَدِي مِنْ ظُلَمِ الضَّلاَلَةِ وَالْجَهَـالَةِ بِـاتِّبَاعِـهِ،

wa jaa'l-tahoo nooran-nah-tadee min z'ulamiz''-z''alaalati wal-jahaalati bit-tibaai'h

9.You appointed it a light through following which we may be guided from the shadows of error and ignorance,

وَشِفَـاءً لِمَنْ أَنْصَتَ بِفَهْم التَّصْدِيقِ إلَى اسْتِمَاعِهِ،

wa shifaaa-al-liman ans'ata bifah-mit-tas'-deeqi ilaa as-timaai'h

10.a healing for him who turns ear toward hearing it with the understanding of attestation,

وَمِيزَانَ قِسْط لاَ يَحِيْفُ عَنِ الْحَقِّ لِسَانُهُ،

wa meezaana qis-t'il-laa yah'eefu a'nil-h'aq-qi lisaanuh

11.a just balance whose tongue does not incline away from truth,

وَنُورَ هُدىً لاَ يُطْفَأُ عَنِ الشَّاهِدِينَ بُرْهَانُهُ،

wa noora hudana laa yat'-faa a'nish-shaahideena bur-haanuh

12.a light of guidance whose proof is not extinguished before the witnesses,

وَعَلَمَ نَجَاة لاَ يَضِلُّ مَنْ أَمَّ قَصْدَ سُنَّتِهِ

wa a'lama najaatin laa yaz''il-lu man am-ma qas'-da sun-natih

13.and a guidepost of deliverance, so that he who repairs straightway to its prescription will not go astray

وَلاَ تَنَالُ أَيْدِي الْهَلَكَاتِ مَنْ تَعَلَّقَ بِعُرْوَةِ عِصْمَتِهِ،

wa laa tanaalu ay-deel-halakaati man taa'l-laqa biu'r-wati i's'-matih

14.and he who clings to its preservation's handhold will not be touched by the hands of disasters.

أَللَّهُمَّ فَإذْ أَفَدْتَنَا الْمعُونَةَ عَلَى تِلاَوَتِهِ،

al-laahum-ma faad'- afat-tanaal-mau'wnata a'laa tilaawatih

15.O God, since You hast given us help to recite it

وَسَهَّلْتَ جَوَاسِيَ أَلْسِنَتِنَا بِحُسْنِ عِبَارَتِهِ،

wa sah-hal-ta jawaaseea al-sinatinaa bih'us-ni i'baaratih

16.and made smooth the roughness of our tongues through the beauty of its expression,

فَاجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ يَرْعَاهُ حَقَّ رِعَايَتِهِ،

faj-a'l-naa mim-man yar-a'ahoo h'aq-qa ria'ayatih

17.place us among those who observe it as it should be observed,

وَيَدِينُ لَكَ بِاعْتِقَادِ التَّسْلِيْمِ لِمُحْكَمِ آياتِهِ،

wa yadeenu laka bia'-tiqaadit-tas-leemi limuh'-kami aaayaatih

18.serve You by adhering in submission to the firm text of its verses,

وَيَفْزَعُ إلى الإِقْرَارِ بِمُتَشَابِهِهِ وَمُوضَحَاتِ بَيِّناتِهِ.

wa yaf-zau' ilaal-iq-raari bamutashaabihihee wamooz''ah'aati bay-yinaatih

19.and seek refuge in admitting both its ambiguous parts and the elucidations of its clear signs!

أللَّهُمَّ إنَّكَ أَنْزَلْتَهُ عَلَى نَبِيِّكَ

al-laahum-ma in-naka anzal-tahoo a'laa nabee-yika

20.O God, You sent it down upon Your prophet

مُحَمَّد صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ مُجْمَلاً،

muh'am-madin s'al-laal-laahoo a'lay-hee wa aaalihee muj-malaa

21.Muhammad (God bless him and his household) in summary form,

وَأَلْهَمْتَهُ عِلْمَ عَجَائِبِهِ مُكَمَّلاً،

wa al-ham-tahoo i'l-ma a'jaaa-ibihee mukam-malaa

22.You inspired him with the science of its wonders to complement it,

وَوَرَّثْتَنَا عِلْمَهُ مُفَسَّراً،

wa war-rath-tanaa i'l-mahoo mufas-saraa

23.You made us the heirs of its knowledge as interpreters,

وَفَضَّلْتَنَا عَلَى مَنْ جَهِلَ عِلْمَهُ،

wa faz''-z''al-tanaa a'laa man jahila i'l-mah

24.You made us to surpass him who is ignorant of its knowledge,

وَقَوَّيْتَنَا عَلَيْهِ لِتَرْفَعَنَا فَوْقَ مَنْ لَمْ يُطِقْ حَمْلَهُ.

wa qaw-way-tanaa a'lay-hee litar-faa'naa faw-qa mal-lam yut'iq h'am-lah

25.and You gave us strength over it to raise us above those not able to carry it.

أللَّهُمَّ فَكَمَا جَعَلْتَ قُلُوبَنَا لَهُ حَمَلَةً،

al-laahum-ma fakamaa jaa'l-ta quloobanaa lahoo h'amalah

26.O God, just as You hast appointed our hearts as its carriers

وَعَرَّفْتَنَا بِرَحْمَتِكَ شَرَفَهُ وَفَضْلَهُ،

wa a'r-raf-tanaa birah'-matika sharafahoo wafaz''-lah

27.and made known to us through Your mercy its nobility and excellence,

فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد الْخَطِيْبِ بِهِ،

fas'al-li a'laa muh'am-madinl-khat'eebi bihee

28.so also bless Muhammad, its preacher,

وَعَلَى آلِهِ الْخُزّانِ لَهُ،

wa a'laaa aaalihil-khuz-zaani lah

29.and his Household, its guardians,

وَاجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ يَعْتَرِفُ بِأَنـَّهُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ

waj-a'l-naa mim-may-yaa'-tarifu bi n-nahoo min i'ndika

30.and place us among those who confess that it has come from You,

حَتَّى لاَ يُعَارِضَنَا الشَّكُّ فِي تَصْدِيقِهِ

h'at-taa laa yua'ariz''anaash-shak-ku fee tas'-deeqih

31.lest doubt about attesting to it assail us,

وَلاَ يَخْتَلِجَنَا الزَّيْغُ عَنْ قَصْدِ طَرِيقِهِ.

wa laa yakh-talijanaaz-zay-ghu a'n qas'-di t'areeqih

32.or deviation from its straightforward path shake us!

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِـهِ،

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

33.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household

وَاجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ يَعْتَصِمُ بِحَبْلِهِ،

waj-a'l-naa mim-man yaa'-tas'imu bih'ab-lih

34.and make us one of those who hold fast to its cord,

وَيَـأْوِي مِنَ الْمُتَشَـابِهَاتِ إلَى حِرْزِ مَعْقِلِهِ،

wa yaa-wee minal-mutashaabihaati ilaa h'ir-zi maa'-qilih

35.seek haven from its ambiguities in its fortified stronghold,

وَيَسْكُنُ فِي ظِـلِّ جَنَاحِهِ،

wa yas-kunu fee z'il-li janaah'ih

36.rest in the shadow of its wing,

وَيَهْتَدِي بِضَوْءِ صَباحِِهِ،

wa yah-tadee biz''aw-i s'abaah'ih

37.find guidance in the brightness of its morning,

وَيَقْتَدِي بِتَبَلُّج إسْفَارِهِ،

wa yaq-tadee bitabal-luji is-faarih

38.follow the shining of its disclosure,

وَيَسْتَصْبحُ بِمِصْباحِهِ،

wa yas-tas'-bihoo bimis'-baah'ih

39.acquire light from its lamp,

وَلا يَلْتَمِسُ ألْهُدَى فِي غَيْرِهِ.

wa laa yal-tamisul-hudaa fee ghay-rih

40.and beg not guidance from any other!

أللَّهُمَّ وَكَمَا نَصَبْتَ بِهِ مُحَمَّداً عَلَماً لِلدَّلالَةِ عَلَيْكَ،

al-laahum-ma wa kamaa nas'ab-ta bihee muh'am-madana a'lamal-lild-dalaati a'lay-k

41.O God, just as through it You hast set up Muhammad as a guidepost to point to You

وَأَنْهَجْتَ بِآلِهِ سُبُلَ الرِّضَا إلَيْكَ.

wa an-haj-ta bi aalihee subular-riz''aaa ilay-k

42.and through his Household You hast made clear Your good pleasure's roads to You,

فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

fas'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

43.so also bless Muhammad and his Household

وَاجْعَلِ القُرْآنَ وَسِيلَةً لَنَا إلَى أَشْرَفِ مَنَازِلِ الْكَرَامَةِ،

waj-a'lil-qur-aaan waseelatal-lanaaa ilaaa ash-rafi manaazilil-karaamah

44.and make the Qur'an our mediation to the noblest stations of Your honour,

وَسُلَّماً نَعْرُجُ فِيهِ إلَى مَحَلِّ السَّلامَةِ،

wa sul-laman-naa'-ruju feeheee ilaa mah'al-lis-salaamah

45.a ladder by which we may climb to the place of safety,

وَسَبَباً نُجْزَى بِهِ النَّجاةَ فِي عَرْصَةِ الْقِيَامَةِ،

wa sababan-nuj-zaa bihin-najaata fee a'r-s'atil-qeeaamah

46.a cause for our being repaid with deliverance at the Plain of Resurrection,

وَذَرِيعَةً نُقْدِمُ بِهَا عَلَى نَعِيْمِ دَارِ الْمُقَامَةِ.

wa d'areea'tan-naq-dumu bihaa a'laa nae'emi daaril-muqaamah

47.and a means whereby we may reach the bliss of the House of Permanence!

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

48.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

وَاحْطُطْ بالْقُرْآنِ عَنَّا ثِقْلَ الأوْزَارِ،

wah'-t'ut' bil-qur-aaani a'n-naa thiq-lal-aw-zaar

49.lessen for us through the Qur'an the weight of heavy sins,

وَهَبْ لَنَا حُسْنَ شَمَائِلِ الأَبْرَارِ

wa hab lanaa h'us-na shamaaa-ilil-ab-raar

50.give to us the excellent qualities of the pious,

وَاقْفُ بِنَا آثَارَ الَّذِينَ قَامُوا لَكَ بِهِ

waq-fu binaaa aaathaaral-lad'eena qaamoo laka biheee

51.and make us follow the tracks of those who stood before You

آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ وَأَطْرَافَ النَّهَارِ

aaanaaa-al-lay-li wa at'-raafan-nahaar

52.in the watches of the night and the ends of the day,

حَتَّى تُطَهِّرَنَا مِنْ كُلِّ دَنَس بِتَطْهِيرِهِ،

h'at-taa tut'ah-hiranaa min kul-li danasim-bitat'-heerih

53.such that You purifiest us from every defilement through its purification

وَتَقْفُوَ بِنَا آثَارَ الَّذِينَ اسْتَضَـآءُوْا بِنُورِهِ،

wa taq-fuwa binaaa aaathaaral-lad'eena as-taz''aaa-oo binoorih

54.and makest us to follow the tracks of those who have taken illumination from its light

وَلَمْ يُلْهِهِمُ الأَمَلُ عَنِ الْعَمَـل فَيَقْطَعَهُمْ بِخُدَعِ غُرُورِهِ.

wa lam yul-hihimul-amalu a'nil-a'mali fayaq-t'aa'hum bikhudai' ghuroorih

55.and whom expectation has not distracted from works, cutting them off through its delusions' deceptions!

أَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

56.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household

واجْعَلِ القُرْآنَ لنا فِي ظُلَمِ اللَّيالِي مُونِساً

waj-a'lil-qur-aaana lanaa fee z'ulamil-layaalee moo-nisaa

57.and appoint the Qur'an for us an intimate in the shadows of nights

وَمِنْ نَزَغَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ وَخَطَرَاتِ الْوَسَاوِسِ حَارِساً،

wa min-nazaghaatish-shay-t'aani wa khat'araatil-wasaawisi h'aarisaa

58.and a guardian against the instigations of Satan and confusing thoughts,

وَلأقْدَامِنَا عَنْ نَقْلِهَا إلَى الْمَعَاصِيْ حَابِساً،

wa liaq-daaminaa a'n-naq-lihaaa ilaal-maa'as'ee h'aabisaa

59.for our feet an obstruction from passing to acts of disobedience,

وَلأِلْسِنَتِنَا عَنِ الْخَوْضِ فِي الباطِلِ مِنْ غَيْرِ مَا آفَة مُخْرِساً،

wa lial-sinatinaa a'nil-khaw-z''i fil-baat'ili min ghay-ri maaa aaafatim-mukh-risaa

60.for our tongues a silencer without blight preventing a plunge into falsehood,

وَلِجَوَارِحِنَا عَنِ اقْتِرَافِ الآثامِ زَاجِراً،

wa lijawaarih'inaa a'ni aq-tiraafil-aaathaami zaajiraa

61.for our limbs a restrainer from committing sins,

وَلِمَا طَوَتِ الغَفْلَةُ عَنَّا مِنْ تَصَفُّحِ الاعْتِبَارِ نَاشِراً

wa limaa t'awatil-ghaf-latu a'n-naa min tas'af-fuh'ilia'-tibaari naashiraa

62.and for the scrutiny of heedfulness rolled up in heedlessness an unroller,

حَتَّى تُوصِلَ إلَى قُلُوبِنَا فَهْمَ عَجَائِبِهِ

h'at-taa toos'ila ilaa quloobinaa fah-ma a'jaaa-ibihee

63.such that You attachest to our hearts the understanding of the Qur'an's wonders

وَزَوَاجِرَ أَمْثَـالِهِ الَّتِي ضَعُفَتِ الْجِبَالُ الرَّوَاسِي

wa zawaajira am-thaalihil-latee z''au'fatil-jibaalur-rawaasee

64.and its restraining similitudes which immovable mountains in all their solidity

عَلَى صَلاَبَتِهَا عَنِ احْتِمَالِهِ.

laa s'alaabatihaa a'ni ah'-timaalih

65.were too weak to carry!

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

66.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household

وَأَدِمْ بِالْقُرْانِ صَلاَحَ ظاهِرِنا،

wa adim bil-qur-aaani s'alaah'a z'aahirinaa

67.and through the Qur'an make permanent the rightness of our outward selves,

وَاحْجُبْ بِهِ خَطَراتِ الْوَسَاوِسِ عَنْ صِحَّةِ ضَمَائِرِنَا،

wah'-jub bihee khat'araatil-wasaawisi a'n s'ih'-h'ati z''amaaa-irinaa

68.veil the ideas of confusing thoughts from the soundness of our innermost minds,

وَاغْسِلْ بِهِ دَرَنَ قُلُوبِنَا وَعَلاَئِقَ أَوْزَارِنَا،

wagh-sil bihee darana quloobinaa wa a'laaa-iqa aw-zaarinaa

69.wash away the dirt of our hearts and the ties of our heavy sins,

وَاجْمَعْ بِهِ مُنْتَشَرَ أُمُورِنَا،

waj-maa' bihee muntashara umoorinaa

70.gather our scattered affairs,

وَأَرْوِ بِهِ فِي مَـوْقِفِ الْعَرْضِ عَلَيْكَ ظَمَأ هَوَاجِرِنَا،

war-wi bihee fee maw-qifil-a'r-z''i a'lay-ka z'amaa hawaajirinaa

71.quench the thirst of our burning heat in the standing place of the presentation to You,

وَاكْسُنَا بِهِ حُلَلَ الأَمَانِ يَوْمَ الْفَزَعِ الأكْبَرِ فِي نشُورِنَا.

wak-sunaa bihee h'ulalal-amaani yaw-mal-fazai'l-ak-bari fee nushoorinaa

72.and clothe us in the robes of security on the Day of the Greatest Terror at our uprising!

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

73.God, bless Muhammad and his Household

وَاجْبُرْ بِالْقُرْآنِ خَلَّتَنَا مِنْ عَدَمِ الإمْلاَقِ،

waj-bur bil-qur-aaani khal-latanaa min a'damil-im-laaq

74.and through the Qur'an redress our lack - our destitution in poverty

وَسُقْ إلَيْنَا بِهِ رَغَدَ الْعَيْشِ وَخِصْبَ سَعَةِ الأرْزَاقِ،

wa suq ilay-naa bihee raghadal-a'y-shi wakhis'-ba saa'til-ar-zaaq

75.drive toward us the comforts of life and an abundance of plentiful provisions,

وَجَنِّبْنَا بِهِ الضَّرَائِبَ الْمَذْمُومَةَ وَمَدَانِيَ الأخْلاَقِ،

wa jan-nib-naa bihiz''-z''araaa-ibal-mad'-moomata wa madaaneeal-akh-laaq

76.turn aside blameworthy character traits and base moral qualities,

وَاعْصِمْنَا بِهِ مِنْ هُوَّةِ الكُفْرِ وَدَوَاعِـي النِّفَاقِ

waa'-s'im-naa bihee min hoo-watil-kuf-ri wa dawaae'en-nifaaq

77.and preserve us from the pit of unbelief and the motives for hypocrisy,

حَتَّى يَكُوْنَ لَنَا فِي الْقِيَامَةِ إلَى رِضْوَانِكَ وَجِنَانِكَ قَائِداً

h'at-taa yakoona lanaa fil-qeeaamati ilaa riz''-waanika wa jinaanika qaaa-idaa

78.such that the Qur'an may be for us at the resurrection a leader to Your good pleasure and Your gardens,

وَلَنَا فِي الدُّنْيا عَنْ سَخَطِكَ وَتَعَدِّي حُدُودِكَ ذَائِداً،

wa lanaa fid-dunyaa a'n sukh-t'ika wa taa'd-dee h'udoodika d'aaa-idaa

79.for us in this world a protector against Your displeasure and transgressing Your bounds

وَلِمَا عِنْدَكَ بِتَحْلِيلِ حَلاَلِهِ وَتَحْرِيم حَرَامِهِ شَاهِداً.

wa limaa i'ndaka bitah'-leeli h'alaalihee watah'-reemi h'araamihee shaahidaa

80.and for what is with You a witness by its declaring lawful the lawful and its declaring unlawful the unlawful!

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

81.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household

وَهَوِّنْ بِالْقُرْآنِ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ عَلَى أَنْفُسِنَا كَرْبَ السِّيَاقِ،

wa haw-wim-bil-qur-aaani i'ndal-maw-ti a'laaa anfusinaa kar-bas-seeaaq

82.and through the Qur'an make easy for our souls at death the distress of the driving,

وَجَهْدَ الأنِينِ، وَتَرادُفَ الْحَشَارِجِ

wa jah-dal-aneen wa taraadufal-h'ashaarij

83.the effort of the moaning, and the succession of the rattling,

إذَا بَلَغَتِ ألنُّفُوسُ التَّراقِيَ وَقِيلَ مَنْ رَاق

(id'aa balaghatin-nufoosut-taraaqeea waqeela mar-raaq)

84.'when souls reach the throats' (ref.75:26) "and it is said, 'Where is the enchanter"? (75:27)';

وَتَجَلَّى مَلَكُ الْمَوْتِ لِقَبْضِهَا مِنْ حُجُبِ الْغُيُوبِ،

watajal-laa malakul-maw-ti liqab-z''ihaa min h'ujubil-ghuyoob

85.when the angel of death discloses himself to seize them from behind the veils of unseen things,

وَرَمَاهَا عَنْ قَوْسِ الْمَنَايَا بِأَسْهُمِ وَحْشَةِ الْفِرَاقِ،

wa ramaahaa a'n qaw-sil-manaayaa bi s-humi wah'-shatil-firaaq

86.letting loose at them from the bow of destinies the arrows of the terror of lonesome separation,

وَدَافَ لَهَا مِنْ ذَعَافِ الْمَوْتِ كَأْساً مَسْمُومَةَ الْمَذَاقِ،

wa daafa lahaa min d'ua'afil-maw-ti kaa-sam-mas-moomatal-mad'aaq

87.and mixing for them from sudden death a cup poisoned to the taste;

وَدَنا مِنَّا إلَى الآخِرَةِ رَحِيلٌ وَانْطِلاَقٌ،

wa danaa min-naaa ilaal-aaakhirati rah'eeloo-want'ilaaq

88.and when departure and release for the hereafter come close to us,

وَصَارَتِ الأعْمَالُ قَلاَئِـدَ فِي الأَعْنَاقِ،

wa s'aaratil-aa'-maalu qalaaa-ida fil-aa'-naaq

89.works become collars around the necks,

وَكَانَتِ الْقُبُورُ هِيَ الْمَأوَى إلَى مِيقَاتِ يَوْمِ التَّلاَقِ.

wa kaanatil-qubwru heeal-maa-waaa ilaa meeqaati yaw-mit-talaaq

90.and the graves become the haven until the appointed time of the Day of Encounter!

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

91.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي حُلُولِ دَارِ البِلَى

wa baarik lanaa fee h'ulooli daaril-bilaa

92.make blessed for us the arrival at the house of decay

وَطُولِ الْمُقَامَـةِ بَيْنَ أَطْبَـاقِ الثَّـرى،

wa t'oolil-muqaamati bay-na at'-baaqith-tharaa

93.and the drawn out residence between the layers of the earth,

وَاجْعَلِ القبُورَ بَعْدَ فِرَاقِ الدُّنْيَا خَيْرَ مَنَازِلِنَا،

waj-a'lil-qubwra baa'-da firaaqid-dunyaa khay-ra manaazilinaa

94.appoint the graves, after separation from this world, the best of our waystations,

وَافْسَحْ لَنَا بِرَحْمَتِكَ فِي ضِيقِ مَلاَحِدِنَا،

waf-sah' lanaa birah'-matika fee z''eeqi malaah'idinaa

95.make roomy for us through Your mercy the narrowness of our tombs,

وَلا تَفْضَحْنَا فِي حَاضِرِي الْقِيَامَةِ بِمُوبِقَاتِ آثامِنَا،

wa laa taf-z''ah'-naa fee h'aaz''iril-qeeaamati bimoobiqaati aaathaaminaa

96.and disgrace us not among those present at the Resurrection through our ruinous sins!

وَارْحَمْ بِالْقُرْانِ فِيْ مَوْقِفِ الْعَرْضِ عَلَيْكَ ذُلَّ مَقَامِنَا،

war-h'am bil-quraaani fee maw-qifil-a'r-z''i a'lay-ka d'ul-la maqaaminaa

97.Through the Qur'an have mercy upon the lowliness of our station at the standing place of presentation to You,

وَثَبِّتْ بِهِ عِنْدَ اضْطِرَابِ جِسْرِ جَهَنَّمَ

wa thab-bit bihee i'nda az''-t'iraabi jis-ri jahan-nama

98.make firm the slips of our feet during the shaking of the bridge across hell

يَوْمَ الْمَجَازِ عَلَيْهَـا زَلَلَ أَقْدَامِنَا،

-mal-majaazi a'lay-haa zalala aq-daaminaa

99.on the day of passage over it,

وَنَوِّرْ بِهِ قَبْلَ الْبَعْثِ سُدَفَ قُبُورنا،

wa naw-wir bihee qab-lal-baa'-thi sudafa quboorinaa

100.illuminate the darkness of our graves before the Uprising,

وَنَجِّنَا بِهِ مِنْ كُلِّ كَرْب يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

wa naj-jinaa bihee min kul-li kar-bee-yaw-mal-qeeaamati

101.and deliver us from every distress on the Day of Resurrection

وَشَدَائِدِ أَهْوَالِ يَوْمِ الطَّامَّةِ

wa shadaaa-idi ah-waali yaw-mit'-t'aaam-mah

102.and from the hardships of terrors on the Day of Disaster!

وَبَيِّضْ وُجُوهَنَا يَوْمَ تَسْوَدُّ وُجُوهُ الظَّلَمَةِ

wa bay-yiz'' wjoohanaa yaw-ma tas-wad-du wujoohuz'-z'alamati

103.Whiten our faces on the day when the faces of wrongdoers are blackened

فِي يَوْمِ الْحَسْرَةِ وَالنَّدَامَةِ،

fee yaw-mil-h'as-rati wan-nadaamah

104.during the Day of Regret and Remorse,

وَاجْعَلْ لَنَا فِي صُدُورِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وُدّاً،

waj-a'l-lanaa fee s'udooril-moo-mineena wud-daa

105.appoint love for us in the breasts of the faithful,

وَلاَ تَجْعَلِ الْحَيَاةَ عَلَيْنَا نَكَداً.

wa laa taj-a'lil-h'ayaata a'lay-naa nakadaa

106.and make not life for us troublesome!

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madin a'b-dika warasoolika

107.O God, bless Muhammad, Your servant and Your messenger,

كَمَا بَلَّغَ رِسَالَتَكَ، وَصَدَعَ بِأَمْرِكَ، وَنَصَحَ لِعِبَادِكَ.

kamaa bal-lagha risaalatak wa s'adaa' bi m-rik wa nas'ah'a lii'baadik

108.just as He delivered Your message, executed Your command, and counselled Your servants!

أللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ نَبِيَّنا صَلَواتُكَ عَلَيْهِ

al-laahum-ma aj-a'l nabee-yanaa s'alawaatuka a'lay-hee

109.O God, make our Prophet (Your blessings be upon him

وَعَلَى آلِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَقْرَبَ النِّبِيِّينَ مِنْكَ مَجْلِساً،

waa'laaa aaalihee yaw-mal-qeeaamati aq-raban-nabee-yeena minka maj-lisaa

110.and his Household) on the Day of Resurrection the nearest of the prophets to You in seat,

وَأَمْكَنَهُمْ مِنْكَ شَفَاعَةً، وَأَجَلَّهُمْ عِنْدَكَ قَدْراً،

wa am-kanahum minka shafaaa'h wa ajal-lahum i'ndaka qad-raa

111.the ablest of them before You with intercession, the greatest of them with You in measure,

وَأَوْجَهَهُمْ عِنْدَكَ جَاهَاً.

wa aw-jahahum i'ndaka jaahaa

112.and the most eminent of them with You in rank!

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِ مُحَمَّد وَشَرِّفْ بُنْيَانَهُ،

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-waaali muh'am-mad wa shar-rif bunyaanah

113.O God, bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, ennoble his edifice,

وَعَظِّمْ بُرْهَانَهُ، وَثَقِّلْ مِيزَانَهُ،

wa a'z'-z'im bur-haanah wa thaq-qil meezaanah

114.magnify his proof, make weighty his balance,

وَتَقَبَّلْ شَفَاعَتَهُ وَقَرِّبْ وَسِيلَتَهُ،

wa taqab-bal shafaaa'tah wa qar-rib waseelatah

115.accept his intercession, bring near his mediation,

وَبَيِّضْ وَجْهَهُ، وَأَتِمَّ نُورَهُ،

wa bay-yz'' waj-hah wa atim-ma noorah

116.whiten his face, complete his light,

وَارْفَعْ دَرَجَتَهُ، وَأَحْيِنَا عَلَى سُنَّتِهِ،

war-faa' darajatah wa ah'-yinaa a'laa sun-natih

117.and raise his degree! Make us live according to his Sunna

وَتَوَفَّنَا عَلَى مِلَّتِهِ، وَخُذْ بِنَـا مِنْهَاجَـهُ،

wa tawaf-fanaa a'laa mil-latih wa khud' binaa min-haajah

118.make us die in his creed, take us on his road,

وَاسْلُكْ بِنَا سَبِيلَهُ، وَاجْعَلْنَا مِنْ أَهْلِ طَاعَتِهِ،

was-luk binaa sabeelah waj-a'l-naa min ah-li t'aaa'tih

119.make us travel his path, place us among the people who obey him,

وَاحْشُرْنَا فِي زُمْرَتِهِ،

wah'-shur-naa fee zum-ratih

120.muster us in his band,

وَأَوْرِدْنَا حَوْضَهُ، وَاسْقِنَا بِكَأسِهِ.

wa aw-rid-naa h'aw-z''ah was-qinaa bikaa-sih

121.lead us to up his pool, and give us to drink of his cup!

أللَّهُمَّ وَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ

wa s'al-lil-laahum-ma a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalihee

122.And bless Muhammad and his Household,

صَلاةً تُبَلِّغُهُ بِهَا أَفْضَلَ

s'alaatan tubal-lighuhoo bihaaa af-z''ala

123.with a blessing through which You wilt take him to the most excellent

مَا يَأْمُلُ مِنْ خَيْرِكَ وَفَضْلِكَ وَكَرَامَتِكَ

maa yaa-mulu min khay-rika wafaz''-lika wakaraamatik

124.of what He hopes of Your good, Your bounty, and Your generosity!

إنَّكَ ذُوْ رَحْمَة وَاسِعَة وَفَضْل كَرِيم.

in-naka d'oo rah'-matiw-waasii'tiw-wafaz''-lin kareem

125.You art Possessor of boundless mercy and generous bounty.

أللَّهُمَّ اجْزِهِ بِمَا بَلَّغَ مِنْ رِسَالاتِكَ

al-laahum-ma aj-zihee bimaa bal-lagha mir-risaalaatik

126.O God, repay him for Your messages which he delivered,

وَأَدَّى مِنْ آيَاتِكَ وَنَصَحَ لِعِبَادِكَ

wa ad-daa min aaayaatik wa nas'ah' lii'baadik

127.Your signs which he passed on, the good counsel he gave to Your servants,

وَجَاهَدَ فِي سَبِيلِكَ أَفْضَلَ مَا جَزَيْتَ

wa jaahada fee sabeelik af-z''ala maa jazay-ta

128.and the struggle he undertook in Your way, with the best You hast repaid

أَحَداً مِنْ مَلائِكَتِكَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ وَأَنْبِيَائِكَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ الْمُصْطَفَيْنَ.

ah'adana mim-malaaa-ikatikal-muqar-rabeen wa ambeeaaa-ikal-mur-saleenal-mus'-t'afay-n

129.any of Your angels brought nigh and Your prophets sent out and chosen!

وَالسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ الطَّيِّبِينَ الطَّاهِرِينَ

was-salaamu a'lay-h waa'laaa aaalihit'-t'ay-yibeenat'-t'aahireena

130.And upon him and his Household, the good, the pure, be peace,

وَرَحْمَةُ الله وَبَرَكَاتُهُ.

warah'-matul-laahee wabarakaatuh

131.God's mercy, and His blessings!
