When he Asked God for Well-Being

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

1.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household,

وَأَلْبِسْنِي عَافِيَتَكَ، وَجَلِّلْنِي عَـافِيَتَكَ،

wa al-bis-nee a'afeeatak wa jal-lil-nee a'afeeatak

2.clothe me in Your well-being, wrap me in Your well-being,

وَحَصِّنِّي بِعَـافِيَتِـكَ، وَأكْـرِمْنِي بِعَافِيَتِكَ،

wa h'as'-s'in-nee bia'afeeatik wa ak-rim-nee bia'afeeatik

3.fortify me through Your well-being, honour me with Your well-being,

وَأغْنِنِي بِعَافِيَتِكَ، وَتَصَدَّقْ عَلَيَّ بِعَافِيَتِكَ،

wa agh-ninee bia'afeeatik wa tas'ad-daq a'lay-ya bia'afeeatik

4.free me from need through Your well-being, donate to me Your well-being,

وَهَبْ لِي عَافِيَتَكَ، وَأَفْرِشْنِي عَافِيَتَكَ،

wa hab lee a'afeeatak wa af-rish-nee a'afeeatak

5.bestow upon me Your well-being, spread out for me Your well-being,

وَأَصْلِحْ لِي عَافِيَتَكَ، وَلا تُفَرِّقْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ عَافِيَتِكَ

wa as'-lih' lee a'afeeatak wa laa tufar-riq bay-nee wa bay-na a'afeeatika

6.set Your well-being right for me, and separate me not from Your well-being

فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ.

fid-dunyaa wal-akhirah

7.in this world and the next!

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ،

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

8.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household

وَعَافِنِي عَافِيَةً كَافِيَةً شَافِيَةً عَالِيَةً نَامِيةً،

wa a'afinee a'afeeatan kaafeeatan shaafeeatan a'aleeatan-naameeah

9.and make me well with a well-being sufficient, healing, sublime, growing,

عَافِيَةً تُوَلِّدُ فِي بَدَنِي الْعَافِيَةَ،

a'afeeatan tuwal-lidu fee badaneel-a'afeeah

10.a well-being that will give birth to well-being in my body,

عَافِيَةَ الدُّنْيَا والآخِرَةِ،

a'afeeatad-dunyaa wal-akhirah

11.a well-being in this world and the next!

وَامْنُنْ عَلَيَّ بِالصِّحَّةِ وَالأمْنِ وَالسَّلاَمَةِ فِي دِيْنِي وَبَـدَنِي،

wa am-nun a'lay-ya bis'-s'ih'-h'ati wal-am-n was-salaamati fee deenee wa badanee

12.Oblige me through health, security, and safety in my religion and body,

وَالْبَصِيرَةِ فِي قَلْبِي وَالنَّفَاذِ فِي أمُورِيْ وَالْخَشْيَةِ لَكَ،

wal-bas'eerati fee qal-bee wan-nafaad'i feee umooree wal-khash-yati lak

13.insight in my heart, penetration in my affairs, dread of You,

وَالْخَوْفِ مِنْكَ وَالْقُوَّةِ عَلَى مَا أَمَرْتَنِي بِهِ مِنْ طَاعَتِكَ

wal-khaw-fi mink wa alqoo-wati a'laa maaa amar-tanee bihee min t'aaa'tik

14.fear of You, strength for the obedience which You hast commanded for me,

وَالاجْتِنَابِ لِمَـا نَهَيْتَنِي عَنْهُ مِنْ مَعْصِيَتِـكَ.

walij-tinaabi limaa nahay-tanee a'n-hoo mim-maa'-s'eeatik

15.and avoidance of the disobedience which You hast prohibited for me!

أللَّهُمَّ وَامْنُنْ عَلَيَّ بِالْحَجِّ وَالْعُمْرَةِ،

al-laahum-ma wa am-nun a'lay bil-h'aj-ji wal-u'm-rah

16.O God, oblige me through the hajj, the umra,

وَزِيَارَةِ قَبْرِ رَسُولِكَ صَلَوَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ

wa zeeaarati qab-ri rasoolika s'alawaatuka a'lay-hee

17.and visiting the graves of Your Messenger (Your blessings,

وَرَحْمَتُكَ وَبَرَكَاتُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ،

wa rah'-matuka wa barakaatuka a'lay-hee

18.mercy, and benedictions upon him and upon his Household)

وَآلِ رَسُولِكَ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلاَمُ أَبَداً مَا أَبْقَيْتَنِي،

wa a'laaa aaali rasoolika a'lay-himus-salaamu abadam-maaa ab-qay-tanee

19.and the Household of Your Messenger (upon them be peace) for as long as You causest me to live,

فِي عَامِي هَذَا وَفِي كُلِّ عَام،

fee a'amee had'aa wa fee kul-li a'am

20.in this year of mine and in every year,

وَاجْعَلْ ذَلِكَ مَقْبُولاً مَشْكُوراً مَذْكُوراً لَدَيْكَ،

waj-a'l d'alika maq-boolam-mash-kooraa mad' kooral-laday-k

21.and make that accepted, thanked, and mentioned before You

مَذْخُوراً عِنْدَكَ،

mad'-khoorana i'ndak

22.and stored away with You!

وَأَنْطِقْ بِحَمْدِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ وَذِكْرِكَ وَحُسْنِ الثَّناءِ عَلَيْكَ لِسَانِي،

wa ant'iq bih'am-dika washuk-rika wad'ik-rika wah'us-nith-thanaaa-i a'lay-ka lisaanee

23.Make my tongue utter Your praise, Your thanksgiving, Your remembrance, and Your excellent laudation,

وَاشْرَحْ لِمَرَاشِدِ دِينِكَ قَلْبِي،

wa ash-rah' limaraashidi deenika qal-bee

24.and expand my heart toward the right goals of Your religion!

وَأَعِذْنِي وَذُرِّيَّتِي مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيم

wa ai'd'-nee wad'ur-ree-yatee minash-shay-t'aanir-rajeem

25.Give me and my progeny refuge from the accursed Satan,

وَمِنْ شَرِّ السَّامَّةِ وَالْهَامَّةِ وَالْعَامَّةِ وَاللاَّمَّةِ

wa min shar-ris-saaam-mati wal-haaam-mati wal-a'aam-mati wal-l-laaam-mah

26.the evil of venomous vermin, threatening pests, swarming crowds, and evil eyes,

وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ شَيْطَان مَرِيد ،

wa min shar-ri kul-li shay-t'aanim-mareed

27.the evil of "every rebel satan" (22:3),

وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ سُلْطَان عَنِيد ،

wa min shar-ri kul-li sul-t'aanin a'need

28.the evil of every refractory sovereign,

وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ مُتْرَف حَفِيد،

wa min shar-ri kul-li mut-rafin h'afeed

29.the evil of everyone living in ease and served,

وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ ضَعِيف وَشَدِيد،

wa min shar-ri kul-li z''ae'efiw-wa shadeed

30.the evil of everyone weak or strong,

وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ شَرِيف وَوَضِيع،

wa min shar-ri kul-li shareefiw-wa waz''eea'

31.the evil of everyone born high or low,

وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ صَغِير وَكَبِير،

wa min shar-ri kul-li s'agheeriw-wa kabeer

32.the evil of everyone small or great,

وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ قَرِيْب وَبَعِيد،

wa min shar-ri kul-li qareebiw-wa bae'ed

33.the evil of everyone near or far,

وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ مَنْ نَصَبَ لِرَسُولِكَ وَلأهْلِ بَيْتِهِ حَرْبَـاً مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالإنْسِ،

wa min shar-ri kul-li man-nas'aba lirasoolika waliah-li bay-tihee h'ar-bam-minal-jin-ni wal-ins

34.the evil of every one, jinn or man, who declares war on Your Messenger and his Household,

وَمِنْ شَرّ كُلِّ دَابَّة أَنْتَ آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهَا

wa min shar-ri kul-li daaab-batin anta aaakhid'um-binaas'eeatihaa

35.and the evil of "every crawling creature that You hast taken by the forelock!

إنَّكَ عَلَى صِرَاط مُسْتَقِيم.

in-naka a'laa s'iraat'im-mus-taqeem

36.Surely You art on a straight path"(ref.11:56).

أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وآلِهِ

al-laahum-ma s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih

37.O God, bless Muhammad and his Household

وَمَنْ أَرَادَنِي بِسُوء فَاصْرِفْهُ عَنِّي وَادْحَرْ عَنِّي مَكْرَهُ،

wa man araadanee bisooo-in faas'-rif-hoo a'n-nee wa ad-h'ar a'n-nee mak-rah

38.and if someone desires ill for me turn him away from me, drive away from me his deception,

وَادْرَأ عَنِّي شَرَّهُ، وَرُدَّ كَيْدَهُ فِي نَحْرِهِ،

wa ad-raa a'n-nee shar-rah wa rud-da kay-dahoo fee nah'-rih

39.avert from me his evil, send his trickery back to his own throat,

وَاجْعَلْ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ سَدّاً حَتَّى تُعْمِيَ عَنِّي بَصَرَهُ،

waj-a'l bay-na yaday-hee sad-dana h'at-taa tua'-meea a'n-nee bas'arah

40.and place before him a barricade, so that You mayest blind his eyes toward me,

وَتُصِمَّ عَنْ ذِكْري سَمْعَهُ، وَتُقْفِلَ دُونَ إخْطَارِي قَلْبَهُ،

wa tus'im-ma a'n d'ik-ree sam-a'h wa tuq-fila doona ikh-t'aaree qal-bah

41.deafen his ears toward my mention, lock his heart toward recalling me,

وَتُخْرِسَ عَنَي لِسَانَهُ، وَتَقْمَعَ رَأسَهُ،

wa tukh-risa a'n-nee lisaanah wa taq-maa' raa-sah

42.silence his tongue against me, restrain his head,

وَتُذِلَّ عِزَّهُ، وَتَكْسِرَ جَبَرُوتَهُ،

wa tud'il-la i'z-zah wa tak-sira jabarootah

43.abase his exaltation, break his arrogance,

وَتُذِلَّ رَقَبَتَهُ، وَتَفْسَخَ كِبْرَهُ،

wa tud'il-la raqabatah wa taf-sakha kib-rah

44.abase his neck, disjoint his pride,

وَتُؤْمِنَنِي مِنْ جَمِيْعِ ضَرِّهِ

wa too-minanee min jameei' z''ar-rihee

45.and make me secure from all his injury,

وَشَرِّهِ وَغَمْزِهِ وَهَمْزِهِ وَلَمْزِهِ وَحَسَدِهِ

washar-rih wa gham-zihee wa ham-zihee wa lam-zih wa h'asadihee

46.his evil, his slander, his backbiting, his faultfinding, his envy,

وَعَدَاوَتِهِ وَحَبَائِلِهِ وَمَصَائِدِهِ وَرَجْلِهِ وَخَيْلِهِ

wa a'daawatih wa h'abaaa-ilihee wa mas'aaa-idih wa raj-lihee wakhay-lih

47.his enmity, his snares, his traps, his foot soldiers, and his cavalry!

إنَّكَ عَزِيز قَدِيرٌ.

in-naka a'zeezun qadeer

48.Surely You art Mighty, Powerful!
