When he was afflicted or saw someone afflicted with the Disgrace of Sin

أَللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ عَلَى سِتْرِكَ بَعْدَ عِلْمِكَ ،

al-laahum-ma lakal-h'am-du a'laa sit-rika baa'-da i'l-mik

1.O God, to You belongs praise for Your covering over after Your knowledge

وَمُعَافَاتِكَ بَعْدَ خُبْرِكَ،

wa mua'afaatika baa'-da khub-rik

2.and Your pardon after Your awareness!

فَكُلُّنَا قَدِ اقْتَرَفَ الْعَائِبَةَ فَلَمْ تَشْهَرْهُ ،

fakul-lunaa qad aq-tarafal-a'aa-ibata falam tash-har-h

3.Each of us has committed faults, but You hast not made him notorious,

وَارْتَكَبَ الْفَاحِشَةَ فَلَم تَفْضَحْهُ

war-takabal-faah'ishata falam taf-z''ah'-h

4.done indecencies, but You hast not disgraced him,

وَتَسَتَّـرَ بِالْمَسَاوِي فَلَمْ تَدْلُلْ عَلَيْهِ،

wa tasat-tara bil-masaawi-i falam tad-lul a'lay-h

5.and covered over evil deeds, but You hast not pointed to him.

كَمْ نهْي لَكَ قَدْ أَتَيْنَاهُ،

kam nah-yil-laka qad atay-naah

6.How many are Your prohibited acts which we have performed,

وَأَمْر قَدْ وَقَفْتَنَا عَلَيْهِ فَتَعَدَّيْنَاهُ،

wa am-rin qad waqaf-tanaa a'lay-hee fataa'd-day-naah

7.Your commandments of which You hast told us which we have transgressed,

وَسَيِّئَة اكْتَسَبْنَاهَا، وَخَطِيئَة ارْتَكَبْنَـاهَا،

wa say-yi-atin ak-tasab-naahaa wa khat'ee-atin ar-takab-naahaa

8.the evil deeds which we have earned, the offenses which we have committed!

كُنْتَ الْمُطَّلِعَ عَلَيْهَا دُونَ النَّاظِرِينَ،

kuntal-mut'-t'alia' a'lay-haa dwnan-naaz'ireen

9.You seest them to the exclusion of all observers;

وَالْقَادِرَ عَلَى إعْلاَنِهَا فَوْقَ الْقَادِرِينَ،

wal-qaadira a'laaa ia'-laanihaa faw-qal-qaadireen

10.You hast the power to make them public above all the powerful!

كَانَتْ عَافِيَتُكَ لَنَا حِجَاباً دُونَ أَبْصَارِهِمْ،

kaanat a'afeeatuka lanaa h'ijaabana doona ab-s'aarhim

11.By giving us safety You hast veiled their eyes

وَرَدْماً دُونَ أَسْمَاعِهِمْ،

wa rad-mana doona as-maai'him

12.and stopped their ears.

فَاجْعَلْ مَا ستَرْتَ مِنَ الْعَوْرَةِ،

faj-a'l maa satar-ta minal-a'w-rati

13.So make the shameful things You hast covered over

وَأَخْفَيْتَ مِنَ الدَّخِيلَةِ وَاعِظاً لَنَا،

wa akh-fay-ta minad-dakheelah waai'z'al-lanaa

14.and the inward reality You hast concealed our admonisher,

وَزَاجِراً عَنْ سُوْءِ الْخُلْقِ وَاقْتِرَافِ الخَطِيئَـةِ،

wa zaajirana a'n sooo-il-khul-qi waq-tiraafil-khat'ee-ati

15.a restrainer upon bad character traits and committing offenses,

وَسَعْياً إلَى التَّوْبَةِ الْمَاحِيَةِ وَالطَّرِيْقِ الْمَحْمُودَةِ،

wa saa'-yan ilaat-taw-batil-maah'eeati wat'-t'areeqil-mah'-moodah

16.and a striving toward the repentance that erases [sins] and the praiseworthy path!

وقَرِّبِ الْوَقْتَ فِيهِ ،

wa qar-ribil-waq-ta feeh

17.Bring the time of striving near

وَلاَ تَسُمْنَا الْغَفْلَةَ عَنْكَ

wa laa tasum-naal-ghaf-lata a'nk

18.and visit us not with heedlessness of You!

إنَّا إلَيْكَ رَاغِبُونَ ، وَمِنَ الذُّنُوبِ تَائِبُونَ.

in-naaa ilay-ka raaghiboon wa minad'-d'unoobi taaa-iboon

19.Surely we are Your beseechers, the repenters of sins.

وَصَلِّ عَلَى خِيَرَتِكَ اللَّهُمَّ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ

wa s'al-li a'laa kheearatikal-laahum-ma min khal-qika

20.And bless Your chosen, O God, from Your creation,

مُحَمَّد وَعِتْرَتِهِ الصِّفْـوَةِ مِنْ بَرِيَّتِـكَ الطَّاهِرِينَ ،

muh'am-madiw-wai't-ratihis'-s'af-wati mim-baree-yatikat'-t'aahireen

21.Muhammad and his descendants, the friends selected from among Your creatures, the pure,

وَاجْعَلْنَا لَهُمْ سَامِعِينَ وَمُطِيعِينَ كَمَا أَمَرْتَ .

waj-a'l-naa lahum saamie'ena wamut'eee'ena kamaaa amar-t

22.and make us listeners to them and obeyers, as You hast commanded!
