When Perils were repelled or Requests quickly granted

al-laahum-ma lakal-h'am-du a'laa h'us-ni qaz''aaa-ik

1.O God, to You belongs praise for Your excellent accomplishment

wa bimaa s'araf-ta a'n-nee mim-balaaa-ik

2.and for Your trial which You hast turned away from me!

falaa taj-a'l h'az'-z'ee mir-rah'-matika maa a'j-jal-ta lee min a'afeeatika

3.But make not my share of Your mercy the well-being which You hast quickly granted to me,

faakoona qad- shaqeetu bimaaa ah'-bab-t wa sai'da ghay-ree bimaa karih-t

4.lest I become wretched through what I have loved and someone else gain felicity through what I have disliked!

wa ee-yakum-maa z'alil-tu feeheee aw bit-tu feehee min had'ihil-a'afeeah

5.If this well-being in which I pass the day or night

bay-na yaday balaaa-il-laa yanqat'ia'- wa wiz-ril-laa yar-tafia'-

6.should precede a trial that does not cease and a burden that does not pass away,

faqad-dim lee maaa akh-khar-t wa akh-khir a'n-nee maa qad-dam-t

7.then set before me what You hadst set behind and set behind me what You hadst set before!

faghay-ru katheerim-maa a'aqibatuhul-fanaaa-

8.For that which ends in annihilation is not great

wa ghay-ru qaleelim-maa a'aqibatuhul-baqaaa-

9.and that which ends in subsistence is not little.

wa s'al-li a'laa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih
